Occupying a large swath of land in northwest York Region, King is a largely rural community approximately an hour away from Downtown Toronto. The township is blessed to be nestled along the Oak Ridges Moraine, which gives King its characteristic rolling terrain covered in lush green. Such an environment makes it clear why King is especially known for three things: cattle, horses, and fresh produce.

King may be the largest area in York Region with over 330 km2 to its name, but it’s also the least populated. As of 2021 population estimates, approximately 27,300 people live in King.

King real estate at a glance

King is one of the best places in York Region and the Greater Toronto Area for anyone who is interested in real estate development. Land for sale is common throughout the township and can be further developed into residential property or productive agricultural land. Existing homes in the market are predominantly single detached houses and townhomes, built between the 1960s. The average home price is C$1.9 million.

Most of King’s population live in three distinct neighbourhoods: King City, Nobleton, and Schomberg. Of the three, King City is the largest, only 40 minutes away from Union Station. It’s comparatively more urban than the rest of the township.

Things to love about King

  • Tons of outdoor recreation. King is for nature lovers who love to be constantly out and exploring. Parks and conservation areas are found throughout the township. These include the 8,730-hectare Pottageville Swamp Conservation Area, which is located in northern King. There, you can go hiking and bird watching, among other activities.
  • Great golf. For those who prefer to play tee times, there are two golf clubs in King to check out. Nobleton Lakes Golf Club has three nine-hole courses: Woods, View, and Lakes. On the other side of the township lies the exclusive King’s Riding Golf Club, home of the 2000 Canadian PGA Championship.
  • Country-style living. Although it is only an hour away from Downtown Toronto, King offers a slower-paced lifestyle.
