Richmond Hill
Tucked between Markham, Vaughan, and north Toronto, one can say that Richmond Hill is the best place to be in the GTA. In many ways, it even feels like an extension of Canada’s largest city. That is because Richmond Hill is just as diverse, exciting, and livable, but in a considerably smaller package. Loyalists might even argue that the city is better as goes the official Richmond Hill motto: “A little north, a little nicer.”
A part of York Region, Richmond Hill is home to approximately 200,000 people. Several neighbourhoods comprise the city, such as Oak Ridges and Elgin Mills.
Richmond Hill real estate at a glance
One of the best things about Richmond Hill’s real estate market is the variety it offers. Although a large section of the housing inventory is composed of single detached homes, this category can be further subdivided into several groups in terms of size, age, and architectural style. That said, single detached homes do tend to be on the larger side, with at least four bedrooms. Townhouses and apartment buildings complete the local real estate offerings.
The average price of homes in Richmond Hill is C$1.5 million, but prices will largely depend on where you intend to buy. Neighbourhoods of note include Bayview North, Doncrest, and Headford.
Things to love about Richmond Hill
- Cultural attractions. Richmond Hill fosters strong community spirit through a multitude of attractions that range from art workshops and festivals to art centres and museums. At the David Dunlap Observatory, you can see the largest optical telescope in Canada and other celestial bodies. For more of local history, visiting the Richmond Hill Heritage Centre is a must.
- Beautiful natural areas. If you look at a map of Richmond Hill, you will find that about half of the city is dedicated parkland or golf courses. North and north-central Richmond Hill is almost entirely covered in green, home to attractions such as Diamondback Golf Club, Lake Wilcox Park, and Jefferson Forest.
- Good coffee. Richmond Hill is littered with lovely cafes where you can get your daily cup of joe or simply enjoy as your favorite third space. Some of the most highly recommended cafes in the city include Covernotes Coffee House, Gate Cafe, Elephant Grind Coffee, and Roses Cafe Senso.
